Medical details (blood type and medical notes) are stored on your device only and are never transmitted to us. The App does not access your device location, contacts or advertising identifier, and contains no advertising or tracking technology.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the App, including your account, dive records, synchronisation, photograph backup, scanning and the features of your plan. This processing is necessary to perform our contract with you.
- To produce anonymous community statistics on the Explore page, based on our legitimate interest in providing useful diving information. Only aggregated data from verified dive sites is used, and no information that identifies you is displayed. You may disable this at any time in Settings › Privacy.
- To review dive sites and species you submit, maintain the security of the App, respond to correspondence and keep records required by law, based on our legitimate interests and our legal obligations.
4. Service providers
We engage the following providers to operate the App. Each is contractually bound to process personal data only on our instructions:
- Supabase (database and authentication, European Union)
- Amazon Web Services (photograph storage, European Union)
- Anthropic (reading logbook pages and cards that you choose to scan)
- RevenueCat (subscription management, using a random account identifier only)
- Resend (account emails), Netlify (website hosting), Mapbox (maps) and Google Workspace (email)
Certain providers are based in the United States. Such transfers are protected by standard contractual clauses or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Apple, Google and iNaturalist (species photographs) process data under their own privacy policies.
5. Retention
- Personal data is retained for as long as your account remains active.
- Items you delete are removed from our servers after 30 days.
- A deleted account is retained for 30 days, during which signing in will restore it. It is then permanently deleted.
- When a paid plan ends, backed-up dive photographs remain available for 45 days, after which the cloud copies are removed.
- Photographs of your Credential Wallet cards are kept with the card, as proof of certification, until you delete the card or your account.
- Scanned logbook pages are not retained once the dive has been imported. Share videos are removed from our servers after 30 days; you can make a new one from the highlight at any time.
- Verified dive sites you have submitted and anonymous community statistics are retained without any link to you. Records of rewards purchased for Otterseas Pros are retained for six years, as required by UK tax law.
6. Your rights
You may view, amend, export and delete your data within the App (Settings), or request deletion of your account without using the App. You also have the right to request access to, correction or erasure of your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format, by contacting info@otterseas.com. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or with the data protection authority in your country of residence.
7. Age
The App is intended for users aged 16 and over.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date above will be revised accordingly, and material changes will be notified within the App.
